Introduction
Hello Parents, students and all who are curious. I am Mrs. Favela-Casillas. I have taught 10th Grade Chemistry and AP Biology. Currently, I teach New Tech Biology. We have high expectations for our students here at Austin High School, and especially at SDOA Panther New Tech. We take pride in maintaining a college-ready environment, one that encourages curiosity and enables all to tackle any rigorous topic in academia. Students are expected to also be able to apply all they know to the world outside the classroom and take current events into great consideration.
Sincerely, Mrs. Favela-Casillas Contact Information: Email: [email protected] Room 93 |

Trust, Respect, Responsibility (TRR) are the pillars of Panther New Tech. TRR encompasses the culture of the program to allow students and facilitators to take ownership over multifaceted learning experiences exercised in every day life . Students and facilitators collaborate in integrated spaces and share leadership of the learning community. As a result, the culture of TRR mirrors the learning and behavioral philosophy we practice as a program.
Why Panther New Tech?
Active learning environment: Through lessons and projects that engage their hearts and minds, students not only gain content knowledge but are also better able to apply what they know and can do to new situations.
Empowering opportunities outside school: Students learn how to interact with professionals and are exposed to workplaces. Through these opportunities, they develop career interests in various fields.
Builds success skills for college, career, and life: Students learn how to take the initiative and have a sense of ownership as they solve problems, work in teams, communicate ideas, and manage themselves more effectively.
Learning with experts from the field: We provide real-world relevance for what students are learning in their classes. The centerpiece of Panther New Tech’s learning experience is the collaboration with experts in the public service community and the opportunities that this provides our students. This both enhances and expands the academy’s curriculum and activities!
